April 30, 2007Miranda’s Birthday Bag
April 29, 2007I’m totally ahead of gift schedule this year! I completed Miranda’s birthday present today…well, more like I completed the WRAPPING for Miranda’s birthday present. Don’t worry, there’s a gift inside. But shhhh!!! I’m not telling you what it is!
The first time I ever sat in front of a sewing machine, was when my aunt taught me how to sew a drawstring bag. So, I figured it would be an easy way to giftwrap a present.
First, I did a regular rectangular bag:
But after stuffing it with the gift and tissue paper, I decided to sew a bit more and make it fish-bowl shaped:
Mom taught me how to make what I call a “fake” button hole, so I didn’t have to deal with two open edges for the drawstring. It turned out pretty neat!
And here’s one more pic of the top of the bag.
Yay! I hope she likes it
Oh, I forgot to add…I found this awesome fabric in the remnants section at Joann’s. I also picked the ribbon up there…I really liked the ribbon, but they had less than a yard left (probably because it was 10 cents a yard)…so I bought the rest, for a whopping 8 cents! Yay for great deals!
Fabric for Skirt?
April 29, 2007During my study break today, Dickson and I went to REI to get lunch from the hot dog guy. This place is so great…he basically has a grill set up outside of REI on the weekends, and you can choose from Spicy Italian Sausage, Keilbasa, or Bratwurst…mmm! They even provide saurkraut on top, too. Deeeelicious. Only on weekends though. So once week (more like twice–Saturday and Sunday) you could potentially stock up on fatty fat fat goodness!
Anyway, after that we went to Joann’s. I needed to find some fabric to make bags for Miranda’s graduation and birthday gifts. So here’s what I found:
I loved it so much, I decided that I’m also going to use this to make my first skirt for Skirt Month. BUT, now I can’t decide which book from the Sew What! Skirts book to make. I’ve narrowed it down to:
1) the beach wraparound
2) the A-line w/ the side split
I love purple!
I really want…
April 28, 2007…to go to the John Mayer concert in June at the Hollywood Bowl. Why? Because
Actually MOSTLY because his new the opening band’s CD (Rocco Deluca) are awesome! But I’ve taken a liking to John Mayer’s stuff this last year, too.
It sounds like a great concert…
But, Dickson doesn’t know where he’ll be in June, so we have to put off buying tickets. Maybe I’ll just wait until Rocco does his own tour….
All Things EE
April 27, 2007Well, as most of you know, I’m an EE major and a happily proclaimed nerd about it. So I thought I’d share some great stuff with you today.
Around the time I moved home, I discovered a wonderful clock on Cafepress:
That’s right, it’s my Pi Clock, which is beautiful because of
1) All the radian angles
2) It’s the UNIT CIRCLE!
As long as you can read an analog clock fine, the numbers won’t confuse you. And for a small wallet damage of $10.99, it’s awesome! If YOU’RE a fan of the Unit Circle, get one on Cafepress TODAY and we can be Pi Clock lovers together!
The other day, my t-shirt order from Insanely Great Tees arrived (FINALLY). It’s the Binary Tree! From far away, it’s totally normal, but once you get close up to it, ALL the leaves or 0’s and 1’s. Here’s me modeling the Binary Tree Tee:
Yes, I know my room is a bit cluttered…it’s Finals time, what can you expect?
