More Camera Photos

September 29, 2007

So the other night was a full moon. Except we realized after awhile that the full moon, while really pretty to the naked eye, is just plain boring to take photos of. <sigh> So, we drove to a nearby lookout point instead and took some pics of my oh so exciting city. This was Dickson’s first time playing withe my camear, so that was fun :)

We live near John Wayne International Airport, so at night you can see a lot of airplanes landing. This made for lots of fun because we had lots of longe exposures :) You can see the string of the airplane light down the middle of the photo.

The string kinda looks like a piece of yarn w/ a few knots going down its length. Those are from the blinking light of the airplane! Wheee…

Then we could also see Tustin Market Place from the viewpoint. It’s where all those pink lights are.

And then, an alien attacked Tustin Market Place:

Oooooooh, ahhhhhh! Hahah…something about this photo is so neato. Other than that it practically blinds me when I look at it haha.

Then I let Dickson play with the camera some more and he took a couple shots before my battery died. <sigh> I need a backup battery hahaha…

I like the car photo :-D This is the street right next to the view point…there’s only one light and the moon (you can see the light in his car window kinda).

So, more Taiwan photos hopefully soon….the next few days only have a few fun photos so it should be fast haha…which is good cause I’m starting to forget a lot of the details!

A note…

Dear Cousin,

Today I went to a fabric store that wasn’t Joann’s and was about 4 miles from my house. It’s a quilting fabric shop and they have TONS of stuff. Next time you visit me or are down here in Southern CA, we’ll go :) I spent an hour there today. This is probably REALLY bad for your fabric diet, but…oh well! It’s a small shop but jam packed with shtuff. On the 20th of every month, everything (minus sale stuff, etc) is 20% off! And, on Fridays, fat quarters are 20% off! AND, during your birthday month you can draw a coupon from the store for a coupon 15-25% off for the ENTIRE MONTH.

Very, very bad for your fabric diet. Well, mine too. I really need to hold back on the fabric shopping. I did pick up some fabric for Mom’s bday/xmas present today though.

Scarves finally done!

So, I’ve been slow about it, but I finished my patchwork scarves! I used the tutorial from Sew Mama Sew…except I made them grown-up-kid size (MY size! :) )

One of them’s for me, and one of them is going to be shipped somewhere…

I picked up 4 fat quarters from Joann’s of some batiks for this one. Just about the right amound, even when I cut some pieces wrong (yeah, PATCHWORK doesn’t always mean random for me hahaha…let alone patches of scraps…).

This one I used part of my leftovers from my Alexander Henry Gist of Gemini fabric, and I also picked up the brown w/ gold circles as a fat quarter from Joanns as well. Obviously, I’ve spent a lot of time there the last couple weeks haha! But I don’t have much to show for it. I used the log cabin pillow tutorial from Dacia Ray to do this one.

Both scarves use a brown soft material…I’ll call it fake linen. I went looking for some linen but, probably not a good combo for me because: 1) I’m cheap somestimes, 2) I was buying other stuff so my 40% coupon wasn’t going towards this, 3) the linen colors they had weren’t very appealing. It all worked out nicely though b/c this stuff is SOFTER and drapes like a dream. It was sitting right next to the linen. And it comes it a lot of colors!

Today is the Autumn Moon Festival (basically full moon in Autumn…part of Chinese tradition). No moon cake this year because when we went to Diamond Bakery this weekend, I was more focused on egg tarts (YUM!!) than on moon cake. Regardless, tonight I’m going to Peter’s Canyon to take some photos of the full moon. I hope it’s big! And pretty!

So….since my sister commented on these in my flickr, I’ll post them haha….gotta love home. These were both taken from the sidewalk in front of my house:

Dickson comes back from Fremont today! YIPEEE!!!

New Digicam!

September 21, 2007

Update 3/21/09:  Comments are locked due to recent ridiculous spamming.

[Update: Here's some pics I've taken the last couple days! SO MUCH FUN!! I have so much to learn though...I've taken nearly 60 shots and these few were the best of the bunch...]

IT’S HERE! My new digital cameraaaa!!! This is my 2nd digital camera…my first one was bought in 2002 or 2003. It’s old. And heavy. I could knock someone out with it haha! It’s a brick!

So, since Dickson is quite the Apple fan, all his Apple products have unpacking pics. Sooo, I kinda picked that up from him…so here are my Panasonic DMC-FZ8 unpacking pics! YAY!!!

Box Photos:

I LOVE the black box with blue interior. Looks really nice.

All the goodies (minus the strap which I forgot to take out when I took this picture):

The camera:

Complete with strap and lens cap. Here it is with the optional (and INCLUDED) lens hood:

Yippeeee!! The battery is charging, and it takes about 2 hours, but I’m SUPER SUPER SUPERLY excited! And it’s supposed to rain tomororw so the sky should clear up and the air should be beautiful…meaning a good day to play with the camera! Now if only UPS would hurry their butt up and delivery my camera’s BAG (it’s been on the truck since 7:30 AM)!!!

Taiwan – Day 7 and 8

September 17, 2007

Lots of pics today… :)

Day 7: Food, and Taipei 101 Lower Levels

So this day was spent mostly wandering around Taipei 101’s mall in their first 4 levels. Which was great, except, the higher we went, the more expensive the stuff got! We ended up just eating snacks.

We first found a bakery, and Kel bought some Chinese bread…yum! Apparently though, that shop, after 9 PM all the people who work in Taipei 101 get everything 50% off! Darn! We also found some delicious fruit! It’s crunchy like an apple, but not as dense. But it’s oh so good! I could eat those every day. Yummy!

It also happened to be Father’s day. At the first level, there was this really cool display:

Pretty nifty, I’d say. Afterwards, we walked around the building awhile…it’s quite a pretty building, but it sure does stick out. None the less, we did have fun gazing up watching the building sway (okay, maybe it just looked like it was moving):

But all of a sudden, it started raining. So we had to run inside and hide. Amazing how the weather can change really quickly.

Day 8: Yang Ming San, Taipei 101 again

The next day, we went with one of my aunts to Yang Ming San. Yep, that’s right, you can see Taipei 101 from here, too:

We had a delicious meal there, too! They grow everything there, so there are little restaurants every once in awhile, and man…the food was good! We also stopped by some view points and little attractions…like this big huge clock:

Anyway, so after that morning excursion, we ran off to go to the top of Taipei 101. Well, more like the 89th level, where the observation deck is. That was super exciting. So we went up, and you basically could walk around the entire floor…360 degree view. So, here’s my favorite shot I got:

And here’s me, Dad, and Kel:

And here’s a list of the world’s tallest buildings, starting with Taipei 101:

Apparently, in a couple years, there’s gonna be a building taller than Taipei 101. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. But at least I can say I’ve been in the tallest building in the world (when it was the tallest!) haha!!

In the food court downstairs, there’s a circle of tiles with various cities engraved on it. You know, big cities like, LA, Rome, Paris, etc. Yeah, and this one too:

THAT’S RIGHT! My dinky little down is engraved on the ground! HAHAHAHAH!!!

That night, we went to eat shabu shabu, which is basically hot pot but you get your individual pot. Super exciting…you have a time limit (2-2.5 hours, I forget), but basically it’s all you can eat. Yummmmmy:

That’s it for today!
