Custom KitchenAid Mixer Cover

June 25, 2008

Update: brief tutorial here.

Mom bought herself a nice big red KitchenAid Mixer (ah, I so want one, too!) awhile ago.

Isn’t it lovely?  I like the candy red color.  Definitely suits her red-supplied kitchen (red apron and cooking utensils, too).

After she bought it, she asked me to make a cover for her.  This was back in April.  When I went to Material Possession’s anniversary sale in May (yes, during Finals), I picked up some fabric for it.  I spent some time sketching and designing the cover, and then I decided to put it aside (you know, to study).  I picked it up about a few days ago again and decided I was super lazy and didn’t want to design it (although my design was cute…I might try to make it a reality eventually), so I checked out Etsy and Google for some inspirations/tutorials, and here is the result…

Healthy Machine = Time for a Giveaway!

June 19, 2008

I got my Janome back yesterday and whipped up a quick checkbook cover to make sure all was running smoothly.  And sure enough, all she needed was some resetting here a tuneup there and she was good as new!

So up for grabs is her resulting hard work:
Checkbook Cover

The exterior is bits of what’s left of my Loft 1800 fabric and the interior is from JoAnn’s.  I used this color combo to make my Velma bag awhile ago.

I meant to do this giveaway around my bloggiversary.  But I got sidetracked by finals.  So then I realized I was nearing 100 posts.  But then, my machine broke.  So here we are now.  Better late than never, right? :)

So for your chance to win, do one of the following:

1) Leave a comment here telling me about your favorite books/tutorials for home decorating items (pillows, curtains, throws, bedsheets, etc)

or

2) Leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite local fabric shop (see post for details)

If you do both, you’ll get a double entry :)

You have until Monday June 30 to enter.  I’ll randomly draw a winner shortly after.  Happy commenting!

My Janome’s at the doctor. Poor thing. She’s been cluky, noisy, and everything she shouldn’t be at 7 months. Bah. So, as much as I’m dying to sew (HELLO, summer skirts!) and as much as I want to start setting up an Etsy shop, I can’t. It’s okay though (kind of), since I’ve been pretty caught up with apartment shopping (YES, we finally bought our first flat screen TV!!!!).

Anyway, so lets go through my list of things I want to make even though my machine’s not around at the moment.

  1. Jersey dress — probably with one of the dress patterns I already have. Speaking of which, I still have to finish my graduation dress. Oops.
  2. Skirts — hopefully two
  3. Bag for Mom — yes I still owe her a bag.
  4. Kitchen Aid Mixer Cover — started designing it, but just haven’t gotten around to cutting it.
  5. Shirts for work — hopefully two

Anyway, in the meantime, here’s a cool video Dickson shared with me. If only we could do something similar when it comes to pattern design. It’s an amazing video though–worth the 5 minutes :)

Hawaii

June 10, 2008

So, this is post #100.  This post was supposed to be my first big giveaway post, but alas, my poor Janome seems to be making loud noises (not purring like she should be when sewing), so Dickson convinced me to not sew until I get her fixed.  Bah.  Anyway, so this is an IOU on the giveaway.

So, instead you get to see some of my Hawaii pictures.  We stayed in Oahu and Kauai for about 1.5 weeks.  It was my chance to practice my photography.  Dickson got me a book about digital photography techniques, so I spent a lot of my spare time doing two things: 1) reading the book, 2) watching CSI.

Here are some of my favorites.  You can see the rest on my flickr.

Brick and Mortar Fabric Store Listing!

June 8, 2008

Miss me everyone?  I’m back from Hawaii!  Official vacation photos to come, but for now I’m going to share my lightbulb idea I got during my trip.

On my last few days in Oahu, I went to Fabric Mart.  It’s a HUGE fabric store in Honolulu that sells Hawaiian fabric at wholesale prices.  Most of the stuff is about $5/yard.  Lets just say I walked in, nearly died in fabric heaven, and walked out with 24 yards of fabric (yes Cousin, I got you some too).

Here’s some photos so you can live through me…
